Discovery management
Litigation is an unavoidable aspect of doing business in the United States. Managing outside counsel and the discovery process can be time-consuming and burdensome. Suzanne can help with those heavy lifts so your executives can stay focused on their day-to-day roles and priorities. Suzanne has 15+ years of complex commercial litigation experience with a focus on financial services and financially complex matters as well as transactional, government, and in-house hedge fund and broker dealer experience.
Suzanne is an experienced review manager, handling reporting, team selection, creation of complex quality control searches and statistical samples, answering substantive questions regarding complex protocols, assisting with technology problems, and teaching staff how to troubleshoot and use various aspects of software programs. She is experienced with hiring, training, and mentoring attorneys, paralegals, and interns.
Due diligence and research
Deals can sound great on paper or in theory and then implode down the line because the meat of the deal was not as portrayed or understood. It is important to always “kick the tires,” “look under the hood,” and verify rather than trust. In many situations due diligence is at least in part performed or overseen by the same employees/promoters who are pushing or sponsoring the deal or investment and stand to gain if it goes forward.
Having an outside party who comes with a skeptic’s eyes and mindset is a worthwhile investment to ensure deals meet investment criteria and are not shaky, shady, or fraudulent. This is particularly critical where a fiduciary duty is owed to current investors.
Looking at a deal in the LatAm space? Suzanne has traveled extensively throughout Latin America, speaks Spanish and Portuguese, and holds a MercoSur passport, allowing her to travel freely through much of Latin America. Suzanne can help you “kick the tires” on a hotel in Costa Rica, a mine in Peru, or a business in Brazil and can help you engage local attorneys, bankers, and consultants as your deal moves forward.
Facilitation for groups and teams
Change is inevitable but that doesn’t make it easy to manage. From launching a new initiative or integrating new teams to creating or overhauling an organization’s processes, using an outside facilitator to assist offers many benefits.
Stakeholders are likely to be more candid about their views and perceived flaws in current or planned projects if they feel safe to express their views—that is easier if the facilitator is not a boss or someone already committed to a specific viewpoint.
Bringing in an outside facilitator shows that the organization or group is serious about hearing stakeholders’ unvarnished feedback and suggestions. Facilitation is much like mediation, where the facilitator is acting as a guide to assist a group, team, or diverse stakeholders to brainstorm and develop ideas to solve their shared challenge(s).
Writing, editing, and proofreading
Suzanne is a superb writer and editor with excellent grammar and attention to detail. Adept at a range of voices from academic research, policy white papers, and persuasive legal briefs to business reports, project and program charters, SOWs, RFP/RFQ responses, technical writing, presentations, marketing materials, and social media content.
Almost every single website, menu, or publication Suzanne encounters has typographical or grammatical errors. If you need someone with an eagle eye for the mistakes that can sink first impressions or tarnish otherwise quality content, Suzanne’s skills at pattern recognition and error-spotting may be exactly what you need to polish your presentation.
